Episode 112 | Lupe Ramos of Choose Wisely
Lupe Ramos is the founder of Choose Wisely, a faith-based apparel brand and graphic design studio based in Corpus Christi. He grew up on the west side — corner of Mistletoe and Redwood, right across from Roshaw Elementary — went to Martin and graduated from Moody, and was raised by his grandmother from age two. She was strict, old school, and didn't have to take him in. He credits her with teaching him responsibility and discipline without ever using either word.
He served in the U.S. Navy, got out in 2013, and spent the next several years doing sales — electricity contracts, gym memberships, eventually becoming a corporate trainer traveling across Texas. When COVID hit, he was essential personnel at a gym and realized he had no control over his own paycheck. That's when he decided to stop making money for everyone else.
He didn't jump straight into Choose Wisely. He went back to school for business, finished his degree in December 2024, and did remodeling and plumbing on the side to fund the brand while it was getting started. He began with hats, moved to t-shirts, taught himself graphic design over two and a half years, and now helps other people launch their own brands with rollout packages and free consultations. He officially launched in September 2023 and came close to a quarter million in revenue last year.
The name started as two cool words — broad enough for anyone to apply to any decision. As his faith deepened, so did the brand. Now you'll find crosses and scripture in his designs because he sees creativity as his calling, not preaching.
He also launched the Choose Love Foundation in the summer of 2025 after his six-year-old daughter asked to pull over and pray when they smelled smoke nearby, then the next day asked if they could bring toys to the family whose house burned down. The foundation has helped four to five families since then.
