The Return of Ledswards: Pain, Purpose, and the "Lossless" Sound of Corpus Christi
Whenever an artist disappears at the height of their grind, the streets notice. But sometimes, the silence isn't a retreat—it's a necessary recovery.
In Episode 123 of the Corpus Christi Originals podcast, we set up shop at the Ink Plug to sit down with local powerhouse Ledswards, who is making his highly anticipated return to the microphone. If you remember his appearance way back on Episode 22, you know Ledswards brings undeniable passion. But the man sitting on the couch today has been through the fire to get back here.
Surviving the Fall
A couple of years ago, Ledswards suffered a horrific accident, falling four stories from a building. The impact broke his back, his wrist, and his feet. The devastating injuries forced him into a two-year hiatus where he didn't create any music at all. Many counted him out, assuming his career was over.
But instead of giving up, he used that time to nurse himself back to health and find absolute clarity. Aided by the support of collaborators like Mud Gang E, who helped wake up the "monster" inside him, Ledswards realized the culture still needed him.
"Look Mom, It's Raining"
Now, Ledswards is dropping his 10th independent studio album: Look Mom, It's Raining. Partnering closely with his brother and visionary shooter, D Green of D Green Films, Ledswards is ready to release new 3D modeled merch and music videos that push the envelope.
The album title reflects a massive shift in his mindset. "At first... I felt that my trials... was just raining so much that I felt like I was slipping and falling," Ledswards explains. "But now... I always meant that the blessings was raining upon me". The "Mom" in the title isn't just literal; it's a nod to Corpus Christi, the city that birthed his sound.
Creating the "Lossless" Genre
One of the most fascinating takeaways from our conversation is Ledswards' creative process. He considers his sound part of a new genre he calls "Lossless". It's highly emotional, harnessing that exact feeling you get right before a tear drops. He isn't making music to flex; he's making music to save lives and provide a testimony for the city.
Even crazier? He doesn't write a single word down. Every track he records comes straight off the top of his head—a testament to his deep, raw talent and his refusal to rely on AI or ghostwriters.
The Blue-Collar Hustle
We also got real about what it actually takes to be an artist. Too many creatives think they are "too cool" to punch a clock. Ledswards, who previously worked as a chef and spent 16 years on cruise ships, strongly advocates for taking care of your real life first. As a professional truck driver myself, I fully agree: you have to get a marketable skill in demand to fund your dreams and support your family.
Unifying the City
Ultimately, Ledswards is stepping up as a leader for Corpus Christi. He’s done away with the old "North Side vs. South Side" mentalities. He's building an Avengers-level team of the city's best talent right out of the Ink Plug studio.
